Most of my career has been focused on supporting the alignment of collaborative efforts. As a game producer, as an agile coach, as a department director, and as an organizational coach – it is the one consistent throughline.
The rewarding moments of my work are through the outcomes of others: when teams break into wide smiles and excitement as they see the first results of their collaborations, recognize that they are “greater than the sum of their parts”, overcome a challenge they thought impossible, or when they delight a customer; it’s when individuals reflect on how they collaborate and contribute, when they have epiphanies about those relationships and their impact, and when they change their mind about something important, letting go of an old belief and taking on a new one. Helping teams and individuals reach those moments is rewarding, but watching them continue to achieve it without my help is even better.
I am writing a blog for two reasons. The first is to get a lot of the early thoughts about shaping better products and organizations out of my brain and onto a page, and in doing so, help me reflect and understand them better myself. The second is to possibly help other individuals or organizations make their work a more rewarding, engaging, and aligned experience. If you fall into this latter category (or just want to “talk shop”), I’d love to hear from you.
